The Game of Hierography
Hierography is a game, a meditative practice, and a reflection on meaning and purpose. It clarifies your thinking about specific situations that require what you might call a 'philosophical' approach. It works like a storytelling machine to help you explore your attitudes and feelings about a life challenge. It is a tool of practical philosophy.
How it Works
In its basic form, the Game of Hierography is a structured conversation with a trusted friend. The rules are simple. Think of a life challenge, great or small. Ask yourself three essential questions: Why am I here in this situation? What is at stake today? Where is the path forward? Then roll the dice to find your answers. The game can be played as briefly or as long as you like.
The basic game kit consists of a game map, a pair of twelve-sided dice with customized images, markers, and a manual with the concepts and rules. The game map is printed on fabric, so you can carry it with you wherever you go. The dice are large; they have a satisfying 'chunk' to them.
To make the most of your game experience, you may want to choose a fancy game map printed on lustrous silk. If you wish, you can also wear it as a scarf. Wrap yourself in the protective mystery of Hierography.
And finally, have a look at our 'Wednesday Compass'. Cast from solid metal, it displays the cosmology of Hierography in a compact, circular, portable form. We like to sit down in the middle of the work week, consider the challenges that are on our mind, and use the compass to review the paths that might apply to the situation.
